If you don’t read Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed without a silly face, does it even count?

We found a new-to-us Mo Willems book! Meet Wilbur, the naked mole rat who likes to wear clothes. But the other naked mole rats don’t like clothes, in fact they despise them!
So Wilbur thinks a lot about his clothing choices. Sometimes he hides his clothes. Sometimes he wears “safe” clothes, like just the socks. Wait… could this be a metaphor??
Eventually Wilbur is cornered by some meanies and asks an important question: “why not?” Why not wear what he wants to wear and be who he wants to be?
The Grand-pah mole rat has a big think about this. When he comes out (metaphor!) we cheered for his choices!
A fantastic book that builds courage to be who you are, even in the face of adversity.
By Mo Willems, who needs no introduction. If you haven’t read Knuffle Bunny, The Pigeon Needs A Bath, Waiting Is Not Easy… you haven’t lived. Our favorite in this house is actually Edwina, The Dinosaur Who Didn’t Know She Was Extinct. Great themes about listening and the importance of being right (or not).
Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed is available on Amazon and Bookshop. There is also a kids tv show in development!
If you love this book, you have to read Sweety! This heartwarming book by Andrea Zuill is also about finding and being yourself. Sweety also happens to be a naked mole rat! And Sweety has an awesome aunt who reminds me of my kid’s awesome aunt… if you have an awesome aunt in your life, this is one for you too.
