Superluminious – Quick Review

Dun-dundundun-dahda! Superluminous!

Nour, the main character in Superluminous, deserves a drum roll and maybe a theme song. She has the most incredible power, the ability to glow. But some meanies at school don’t understand, and slowly her glow starts to dim (along with her spirits).

But!! When her baby sister needs her, Nour is there with all her luminosity!

We talked about feelings the whole way through this one. How about Nour was feeling, how the school kids were feeling, how (spoiler alert) the new people who got the glow were feeling at the end. We hope Nour knows how much her glow has helped her neighbors and her readers.

The illustrations in this book feel like a sunrise. They are warm and inviting and make you want to dive right into the world Nour makes glow.

Themes include confidence, siblings, hard school days, and using your personal skills.

Written and illustrated by Ian De Haes, who also created Simon and the Big, Bad, Angry Beasts: A Book about Anger and a few other just ridiculously gorgeous books written in languages I’m now inspired to learn.

Superluminous is available on Amazon and Bookshop.
