Rashad’s Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr – Quick Review

Eid Mubarak! We are reading Rashad’s Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr tonight to share in our friends’ celebrations.

This is a wonderful, age appropriate “chapter book” about Ramadan. Our favorite was chapter three, about being good and caring for the poor. Every week we give food to people who don’t have enough as part of our preschool routine, and we loved learning that this is also an important part of Ramadan. At the end of the book there are instructions for making a moon can where you can save money to help buy food for people who don’t have enough, and we can’t wait to make our own moon can after reading this book.

The illustrations are warm and inviting. The main text gives enough information for a preschooler to get an understanding of the holidays, and there’s supplemental information on each page that helps build out multiple readings. And the information at the back of the book is great! Our kiddo requested that we read every word.

By Lisa Bullard, illustrated by Holli Conger. These two have collaborated on useful books like This Is My State and This Is My Neighborhood. Bullard has authored some other great books, like My Family, Your Family about how families alike and different. And Conger has illustrated some fun books about weather patterns including When Will It Rain? and Does the Sun Sleep? Most of these books are affordable at $8.99. And if you’re not an Amazon fan, you can find them on Bookshop! My Food, Your Food is a good place to start.

Published by Cloverleaf Books, part of an awesome series of picture books about holidays including Chelsea’s Chinese New Year and Sarah’s Passover.

Rashad’s Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr is available on Amazon and Bookshop.
