A New Kind of Wild – Quick Review

When our family moved from LA to Michigan and back, we had loads of conversations about the importance of nature and how much of a role we wanted nature to play in our lives. I wish A New Kind of Wild had been there for those moments.

A New Kind Of Wild is a gentle story about a child who moves from his grandmother’s rural house in a far away forest. His new home is in the heart of a big city, and his imagination is stifled by the noise and light and buzz that surrounds him. He makes a friend, but it takes both of them some time to understand each other. I love how the children work to make that understanding happen, and how my own perspective on living in the city is altered by a child’s eyes.

Themes include friendship, moving, international settings, perspective, home, imagination, and nature.

Written and illustrated by Zara Gonzalez Hoang.

A New Kind of Wild is available on Amazon and Bookshop.
