Danbi! If you haven’t met Danbi yet, head to your nearest local bookstore and pick up your copy of Danbi Leads the School Parade.
Danbi is new to America (she’s from South Korea) and new to kindergarten. She doesn’t understand the language or the routines but she has a totally irresistible zest for the day (and some awesome food and chopsticks and the best idea for recess).
Danbi Leads The School Parade is a joyful read. It is an important read too, especially with so many kids headed back to school after a year in quarantine.
We’ve loved this book for ages, but we read it today because happened in Atlanta is vile and we needed an age appropriate way to talk about it. And what’s been happening leading up to the events in Atlanta is vile too, it isn’t like this appeared from nowhere.
Books are not the answer, but opening a book also opens a conversation. I hope there have been many conversations in these last days, and may those conversations continue until… well, I hope there comes a day when that sentence can be finished.
